Why CCD Cameras?
CCD and CMOS
imagers were both invented in the late 1960s and 1970s (DALSA
founder and CEO Dr. Savvas Chamberlain was a pioneer in
developing both technologies). CCD became the preferred
and dominant technology, primarily because it gave far
superior images with fabrication technology economically
available. CMOS image sensors required more uniformity and
smaller features.
Most of the cameras that are sold on eBay are CMOS
cameras. CCD Cameras are usually
twice the price and the pictures are up to 10
times clearer, brighter and more
colorful.
This type of
camera does not like direct sunlight into the camera, so
please position it where it is somewhat protected from
direct sunlight.
Cheap Power
Adaptors are notorious for spoiling a good system Their voltages
can range widely and also fluctuate widely during operation. The
best camera will perform poorly because of skimping on the power
adaptors. We Don't.
We ship 1 high quality power adaptor to match the high quality
camera in this kit.
1
X 50 Foot Power/Video Cable
1 X 50 foot power/video
cables valued at $19.95 each
Why a Power/Video
Cable?
This is the best
and easiest way to power your camera. No need to find a power
outlet at the camera location. No need to pay an electrician to
install more power lines and outlets. Even if there was a power
outlet outside, this way there is no concern about protecting
the power adaptors from rain and snow.
The power adaptor will then go into a power bar right next to
your computer. The power side of the cable brings power to your
camera from your power bar. The video side of the cable brings
the video signal to your computer from the camera.
We have longer length cables (100 and 150 foot) in our eBay
store that you can upgrade to if necessary After you purchase,
email us your specific cable requirements and we will send you a
revised invoice.

DVR Stand Alone
"versus" Computer & PCI Capture Card
Using a Computer with a Capture Card
Requires some computer experience.
There is more set-up work and expense required - such
as......
You usually need to buy a computer and pay for a copy of
Windows.
Then you will need to buy a DVR Capture Card and
physically install the card in the computer.
You will need to load the drivers for the card dealing
with any conflicts.
Then you will need to install the capture card
surveillance program and learn how to use it.
Generally a computer will draw more electricity running 24
hours a day.
An intruder will more likely grab and steal the computer.
A computer often will be noisier as fan requirements higher. A
bedroom installation is less desirable because of this
noise.
Not well suited to being used as a personal computer at
the same time whereas the DVR Stand Alone is dedicated to
surveillance and nothing else..
A DVR Stand Alone generally has a higher frame rate for
less money, as 120 frame per second computer cards are
quite costly. Therefore the recordings will look like real
time videos.
Benefits...A computer with a DVR capture card usually has
many more features because it will be a more sophisticated
program.
Usually the computer/DVR card is a better choice if
subsequent upgrading is required such as adding more
cameras...it is easy to just add an addition DVR PCI card.
With a
Stand Alone DVR
It is virtually a plug and
play operation - faster to install - easy to operate.
There is no computer to purchase. It is less expensive than
a computer.
A copy of Windows not required.
There is no DVR capture card to install, no drivers to load,
no program to load.
It will normally have a higher frames per second recording
rate for less money.
It is more reliable to operate...fewer things go wrong. It
uses less electricity.
It has a smaller footprint than a computer...taking up far
less space.
It is easier to hide. Intruder may not know what it is or
even to look for it. Looks like a DVD player.
It has a simpler program to learn.
It is quieter - often fan less - can be in a bedroom
To upgrade to more cameras,
you can purchase a second system. You can run both at the
same time.
H.264 Explained
The latest video compression
standard, H.264, is expected to become the video standard of choice in the
coming years. It has already been successfully introduced in electronic
gadgets such as mobile phones and digital video players. For the video
surveillance industry, H.264 offers new possibilities to reduce storage
costs and to increase the overall efficiency.
H.264 (sometimes referred to as MPEG-4 Part 10/AVC) is an open, licensed
standard that supports the most efficient video compression techniques
available today. Without compromising image quality, an H.264 encoder can
reduce the size of a digital video file by more than 80% compared with the
Motion JPEG format and as much as 50% more than with the traditional
MPEG-4 Part 2 standard. It is the magnitude of these numbers that makes
H.264 highly relevant for video surveillance applications.
Reduced storage and
bandwidth costs
One immediate benefit of the drastically reduced file sizes is the impact
on storage and bandwidth requirements.
For the same amount of video data, with the same image quality, a video
surveillance system supporting H.264 compression will basically reduce the
storage cost and bandwidth occupancy by at least 50% compared to when
using conventional compression technologies. As the systems grow larger,
and the requirements for high-resolution images in combination with high
frame rates increase, H.264 will be a key differentiator between various
system solutions.
Higher resolution and
frame rate
Depending on application needs, there are various ways to benefit from the
impressive compression rate of H.264. Today, it is common to choose a
limited frame rate or lower resolution in order to stay within the
specified storage limitations of an application. This has a negative
impact on the video images, which become either blurry or less detailed.
Introducing video surveillance equipment that support H.264 compression in
such an application will enable several combinations of increased frame
rate and image resolution, thus providing higher image quality.
Origin of H.264
H.264 is the result of a joint project between the International
Telecommunications Union's Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC
Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). ISO stands for International
Organization for Standardization and IEC is an organization that oversees
electronic and electrical standards. H.264 is the name used by ITU-T,
while ISO/IEC has named it MPEG-4 Part 10/AVC since it is presented as a
new part in its MPEG-4 suite.
Jointly defined by standardization organizations in the telecommunications
and IT industries, H.264 is expected to be more widely adopted than
previous standards.
