I bought this product a couple of weeks ago
and am happy with the purchase.
The motion sensor set up works well if you are using wired cameras,
with wireless cameras you may have a lot of false activations due to interference. The
answer is to stick to wired cameras or set wireless cameras to record all
the time.
The software is powerful with lots of commands but hard to learn for a
first timer.
I read a lot of conflicting reviews about this
USB device, such as needing to disable other apps, and not functioning in
other USB slots except the one it was installed in.
I loaded it on an underpowered laptop, 1.6
processor with ATI video and it still worked so it is hit or miss
according to the reviews. After loading the software my Canon camera
software did not function. Overall I am happy with this product for the
price.
I took other
peoples advice and only installed this on an Intel machine (laptop in my
case) with Intel video, not nVidia and it worked fine right out of the
box. I also had my wireless mouse attached at the same time and had no
issues. my problem with the remote monitoring is that it uses ActiveX
with IE only. The *client* side software to view the server's cameras is
not digitally signed. I had to view the certificate and save the file
first to my desktop then launch to have it install to the appropriate
root directory. I also had to disable some security settings for
installing ActiveX in the browser. Once i did this it worked fine, even
over a slow cell phone connection to my laptop.
No trouble -- installation
perfect, simply install the software ... no problem, nice
I am running this on a laptop with Windows XP,
AMD Athlon XP Mobile, VIA chipset, ATI Radeon AGP , with NEC USB
2.0 controller. I followed the installation instructions, and the hardware
and software installed perfectly THE FIRST TIME and still is working
GREAT!! Maybe I am just lucky...but I have a feeling that the negative
reviewers did not read their installation instructions. As long as you
have USB 2.0 and a DIRECT DRAW compatible video card with 64mb of video
ram this device should work fine. Intel is NOT necessary! Also, you CAN
use other USB devices simultaneously. I am using a USB printer AND a USB
2.0 250gb external hard drive to store months worth of surveillance video
and audio on...IT WORKS PERFECTLY. Never freezes, even when viewing over
the internet. Internet live surveillance and playback works FLAWLESSLY by
the way. The software is very powerful and is LOADED with features...and
is fairly easy to learn (took me 30 minutes). VERY VERY SATISFIED...
Had a little trouble with the original driver
software, called and had my call returned the next business day.
It did require the updated drivers for XP and VISTA Choose your USB port
carefully, it still only recognizes the one you install from. but it does
do well.
When (in most cases) you can get it to work
it seems fine for my application and it is cheap. If you turn off your
computer, connect the device, turn on computer install software it worked
for me until i plug it into a different USB port. Worked on AMD
chips not just Intel like they say

and speed. The ability to monitor in real time and play back remote
cameras from any computer running the IE browser, even across the Internet
is a great feature on such a low cost product!
