These websites are generated by the Blue Iris software on a normal
Windows XP computer connected to the internet.
There is no additional web hosting service needed. You run your own
web service. All you need is your cameras, Pentium IV computer, a
Blue Iris installation and an internet connection.
Additionally you need a
"free" dyndns account.
That's it. Then you
can access your camera's live streaming video as well as your recordings from anywhere.
There are a few installations you can find easily by searching
"Blue Iris Remote View" on
Google.
Be aware that some of that installations do not use the standard
port, so they may be blocked by your ISP.
If you want best quality you
need to open the link in the internet explorer, and install the
ActiveX Media Player of Perspective Software. This is not Spy
Software. If you are uncomfortable installing the ActiveX component
you can switch to the Java Player, or a jpeg pull site which does
not use any plugin at all.
(The last 2 options also work with Firefox and other browsers)
Caution - there are a
few camera
installations which may not be suitible for minors and accessing
from your workplace.
These are private sites and may or may not be running.

Descriptions and examples of Blue Iris
Webcasting technologies:
ActiveX/MPEG |
- Used on the default home page
- Very efficient - makes a single request,
and then receives a continuous stream of temporally-compressed
images.
- Uses a C++ ActiveX component, which
requires DirectX 8 and IE 5.5 or better
- Browser and user must accept
component download and installation
|
JAVA/JPEG |
- Uses a Java Applet
- Makes a single request, and then receives
a continuous stream of JPEG images
- Browser must support and run Java Applets
- The Java applet must have privileges to
access the Internet
|
JPEG
refresh
Sized for a
Cell Phone |
- The simplest
- Uses Java Script to continuously refresh a
standard HTTP image
- Least efficient - each frame is
independently requested
- Major advantage: compatible with virtually
all browsers and networking configurations
|
The Windows
Media stream |
- Full license version only
- Works only when you have selected Windows
Media in the camera's webcasting setup page
- Efficient stream, but somewhat inefficient
CPU utilization
- Users an embedded Windows Media Player
